The Chad Mitchell Trio released this single on Kapp Records in 1961. Lizzie Borden reached number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. The record # K-439 X.
The name of the group gradually changed to The Mitchell Trio. They were known for their traditional fold sons and some of John Denver's early songs. The were well known for performing satirical songs that criticized current events during the time of the cold war, civil rights movement and the Vietnam War.
The original group was formed in 1958, by William Chadbourne “Chad” Mitchell (from Portland, Oregon), Mike Kobluk (from Trail, British Columbia, Canada and Mike Pugh from Pasco Washington during a time they were students at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
Mitchell left the trio in 1965 to embark on a solo singing career. Another audition process replaced him with the young (and unknown) singer/songwriter John Denver. The group retained the well-known "Mitchell Trio" name, with Denver writing some of the group's songs.
This record is in very good condition, it sounds good but does show some wear.
