Hang On Sloopy was 1965 release by The McCoys on Bang record label. Hang On Sloopy topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1965. Hang On Sloopy was written by Bert Russell and Wes Farrell.

The McCoys got their start in Union City, Indiana in 1962. The original members  were guitarist Richard Zehringer (later known as Rick Derringer), his brother Randy who eventually was known as Randy Z was the drummer, Dennis Kelly on bass. Their original name was The Rick Z Combo and later they changed their name to  Rick and the Raiders. When Kelly decided it was time to go to college the band recruited Randy Jo Hobbs to play bass, they added a saxophonist by the name of Sean Michaels and a key board player by the name of Ronnie Brandon. Brandon left the group in 1965 and was replaced by Bobby Peterson on keyboards. The name was changed to The McCoys.

This 45 shows some wear from years of being played on radio. It still does sound pretty good despite the wear.
