In 1972 Melanie released this single on Neighborhood Records. This 45 reached number 105 on the Billboard Top 200 and 79 on Cashbox in 1972. This is a promotional copy, stamped special rush reservice. This record does have a different song on each side.

Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk was born and raised in the Queens, New York City. Melanie made her first public singing appearance at age four on the radio show Live Like A Millionaire, performing the song "Gimme a Little Kiss".
Melanie was getting started in the 1960's. She performed at The Inkwell, a coffee house in West End section of Long Branch, New Jersey. She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, where she began singing in folk clubs of Greenwich Village and that is when she signed her first recording contract.
She signed originally with Columbia Records where she release two singles. Then went to Buddah Records and found some success hitting the charts in Europe in 1969 with "Bobo's Party" which reached Number 1 in France.
Later in 1969, Melanie had a hit in the Netherlands with "Beautiful People". 1969 was a big year for her as she was one of only three solo women who performed at the Woodstock Festival that year. That festival gave her inspiration for her first hit song, "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" .
