Lou Rawls birth name was Louis Allen Rawls he was born on December 1, 1933. Rawls during his career became known as a singer, songwriter, actor, voice actor and record producer. I think overall he was best known for his extraordinary singing ability. He released more than 60 albums and is credited for selling more than 40 million records. In addition he had many singles that charted.

Rawls was born in Chicago on the city's South Side where he was raised by his grandmother. He started singing in the Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church choir at the age of seven and later sang in various groups through which he met other future stars, Sam Cooke and Curtis Mayfield.

In 1955, Rawls enlisted in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.  pronounced dead before arriving at the hospital, where he stayed in a coma for five and a half days. It took him months to regain his memory, and a year to fully recuperate. Rawls considered the event to be life-changing
