Son of Schmilsson was recorded between March and April in 1972 between two studios; Trident Studios and Apple Studio both in London. The album was released on July 10, 1972 in the United States and on the 28th of July that year in the United Kingdom.

Son of Schmilsson is the eighth album by American singer Harry Nilsson. Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, Nilsson Schmilsson, but instead, he created a more eccentric work. The album was produced by Richard Perry and features musical contributions from Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Some of the other musicians used on this album included Peter Frampton, Bobby Keys, Nicky Hopkins and Klaus Voormann.

The songs on this album include: Take 54; Remember Christmas; Joy; Turn On Your Radio; You're Breakin' My Hear; Spaceman; The Lottery Song; at My Front Door; Ambush; I'd Rather Be Dead and The Most Beautiful World In The World.

This album is a promotional album primarily for radio stations. There is a label on the front of the cover that even says "Please Audition Before Radio Airplay" This is a rare copy of this album and it is in very good condition. The cover shows some shelf wear.
