Ray Charles Robinson was born in 1930 and was known as Ray Charles. Charles was an accomplished singer, songwriter, musician and composer. Known to his fellow musicians as "Brother Ray" and often referred to as "The Genius".

Being blind since the age of 7 certainly did not stop him from a great lifetime of work. He pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950's by combining blues, rhythm and blues and gospel styles in the music he recorded for Atlantic Records. While with ABC records he became one of the first black musicians to be granted artistic control by a mainstream record company.

Frank Sinatra called Ray Charles "the only true genius in show business".
In 2002, Rolling Stone ranked Charles number ten on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
